Job Description:

Graduates of Cape Breton University automatically become alumni of the University. The department of Alumni & Development works to keep alumni engaged with the University through various forms of communications. The primary role of the Alumni Engagement Assistant is assisting staff from CBU’s Alumni and Development office with tracking of historical stories of CBU alumni and identifying alumni for potential future stories. The student will also be involved with writing some stories for future publication.

Qualifications:

Seeking a student with strong communications skills (oral and written, including interviewing and listening), organized in documenting from various sources, comfortable with CBU Alumni’s social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook).  Communications student from 3rd or 4th year preferred. Seeking detailed oriented student, with strong organizational and time management skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff in CBU’s Alumni & Development department to:
  • Identify interesting alumni for future publication via Alumni’s Digital Distinction magazine (including Distinction Global editions)
  • Cataloguing stories and alumni from past editions of Distinction dating back 20+ years into various categories. This includes reading the stories for content topic. This information will be helpful to determine future stories and for tracking those alumni.
  • Interviewing CBU faculty and staff from each school to uncover interesting alumni stories
  • Writing stories about CBU Alumni identified for Distinction, web or social media
  • Assist alumni staff with scheduling social media.
