Project Engineer Co-op – Mining

CGC’s co-op Mine engineer/ geology position is an entry-level assignment. It is a ‘hands-on’ training assignment with immediate responsibility, including assistance with exploration drill program activities. As a co-op engineering student, the motivated individual will demonstrate their leadership ability and geology knowledge in a quarry operation within a large corporation.

This is a co-op position based at the CGC Little Narrows quarry – 100% on-site role. It’s a salaried position, working Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and occasionally on weekends, only when necessary.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in exploration drill program.
  • Core logging support including cutting, splitting, tagging and bagging samples.
  • Assist with sampling QA/QC.
  • Assists with planning efforts to support daily work.
  • Completes administrative tasks as needed for the position.
  • Works with existing plant personnel and contract employees to administer plant policies and support drill program execution.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Training for undergraduate degree in geology and/ or mine engineering ideally. Mechanical, electrical or civil engineering are also considered.

Years of Experience:

  • Co-op/intern experience in an exploration drilling, mining and/ or manufacturing environment preferred.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), and decision-making skills to work with a diverse team.
  • Must have a high level of organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Must be a self-starter, detailed-oriented, and have the ability to work both independently and within a team to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point, Geological modelling (Surpac, Vulcan, Deswick), and logging software are preferred.
  • Valid Drivers License
