Actuarial Analyst, Group Risk Mgmt – 8 months (Winter 2022 Student)

What is the opportunity?

Please note this is an 8 month student opportunity.

  • The Actuarial Analyst working with the Product Portfolio team provides key technical actuarial assistance in completing and ensuring the integrity of RBCI’s Canadian Life & Health actuarial reporting requirements.
  • Understand the relationship between the Business Units and Canadian Life & Health Actuarial with an emphasis on the Actuarial Aspects of reserving for Life & Health insurance products
  • Utilize data to develop advanced analytical models that allow a greater understanding of the costs, benefits, risks and opportunities inherent in Life & Health insurance products.
  • Learn how to use GGY AXIS software to perform reserve quantifications and assist in month end production.
  • Develop knowledge and recommend improvements to actuarial valuation process and models.

What will you do?

  • Complete monthly transaction based reporting for Corporate Actuarial and their partners.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing improvements to actuarial valuation processes.
  • Develop and maintain statistical models of valuation data.
  • Perform experience studies (Lapse, Mortality, Morbidity) and communicate results to management.
  • Assist in CALM quarterly valuation processes and liability cashflows.
  • Assist in Year-end reporting, process improvements and other ad-hoc requests.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Basic programming skills for GGY/Axis, SAS, R
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written) with all “key relationships”
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Pursuing a degree in mathematics/statistics/actuarial science or a related field AND successfully writing preliminary exams of the Society of Actuaries

Nice-to-have

  • Prior Co-op experience in similar roles.
