United Way Halifax is seeking an experienced accounting student to fill a 12-month co-op position
on our Finance & Technology team. This role will offer progressive learning opportunities, and a
unique and well-rounded perspective on non-profit financial management.

• First term – you will learn about the non-profit sector and United Way Halifax’s operations,
and gain exposure to different areas of financial management, such as financial operations (AR/AP),
reporting, and financial analysis.

• Second term – you will have hands-on experience with journal entries, financial controls,
including month-end and year-end responsibilities.

• Third term – you will have the opportunity to see a full accounting life cycle and year-end
audit process.

The ideal candidate demonstrates leadership and initiative and holds strong interpersonal and
team-building skills. They also have excellent communications skills and demonstrate adaptiveness
and professionalism. Other requirements include:

• The student must be completing an undergraduate degree in accounting and intend to pursue a
CPA designation.

• The student must have strong computer literacy including proficient working skills in
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• The student must be willing to travel across the Atlantic region.
