Summary of the Program/Project: 

Clean’s Clean Leadership is a sustainability-focused youth employment program that has produced thousands of graduates over its decades-long lifespan who are committed environmental leaders. Clean partners with organizations across Nova Scotia to place youth in subsidized summer positions that are rooted in the green economy (e.g. energy efficiency, public engagement, clean tech R&D, ecological restoration).  The Clean Leadership wants to inspire, develop and nurture an interest in jobs that support a low-carbon economy and a sustainable environment. By tapping into a student’s journey mid-way through school, our training and internship program offers new green options in career path decisions – while giving young minds the tools they need for future success. The program builds connections between youth and local organizations to stimulate stewardship for the natural environment and support the emergence of young community leaders.  

Summary of the Position:  

The Project Assistant will be mainly responsible for assisting the Clean Leadership Project Lead with hiring, training and supporting Clean Leadership students across the province.  This is a demanding position which requires a lot of energy and a vested interest in youth, communities, and the environment of Nova Scotia.  The successful candidate needs to have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.  This Project Assistant will be required you to work in and out of the office, performing site visits to various Community Partners across Nova Scotia visiting Clean Leadership students. Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours may be required in order to meet operational requirements.     

Specific Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities):  

  • Recruiting, hiring, and training Clean Leadership students;  
  • Organizing a provincial professional development conference 
  • Monitoring and evaluating students’ progress;  
  • Conducting project site visits;  
  • Supporting Clean Leadership students; 
  • Develop bi-weekly newsletter; 
  • Maintain Clean Leadership social media presence; 
  • Organizing a regional summer end showcases; 
  • Collaborating on a daily basis with a three-person team and being a responsible steward of the environment; 

Education and Required Qualifications: 

  • Currently completing or completed Bachelor degree or work related experience is considered an asset; 
  • Previous experience working in an environmental field considered an asset; 
  • Knowledge of the French language is considered an asset;  
  • Familiarity with communities across Nova Scotia is considered an asset;  
  • Knowledge of First Nation communities across Nova Scotia is considered an asset;  
  • Previous experience working with youth or coaching is considered an asset;  
  • Previous supervisory experience is considered an asset;  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;  
  • Public speaking and/or facilitation skills; 
  • Good project coordination skills;  
  • Excellent organizational, time management and practical problem-solving skills;  
  • Must demonstrate a passion for youth employment and the Clean economy; 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record and be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract from the Registry of Motor Vehicle; 
  • Must be able to complete and pass a criminal background check;  
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision and productivity as part of a team; 
  • Have an aptitude for safe work practices; 
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy work environment; 
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record. 

 Working Conditions: 

This position will require you to work in and out of the office, performing site visits to various Community Partners across Nova Scotia visiting Clean Leadership students. Additional hours, or time outside of the normal work hours may be required in order to meet operational requirements.   

Physical Requirements:  

This position may require periodic heavy lifting, driving, standing or sitting for long periods of time.  

16 weeks, 35 hours/week and pay 15$/hour
