About Our Opportunity

As a Summer Student supporting the Registry of Motor Vehicles and Land Registration Office, you will gain practical administrative experience and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.

Working in a fast paced customer service environment, you support various customer service activities related to the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Land Registration Office, and other Business Programs. These duties may include assistance triaging customers, information desk coverage, administering knowledge tests, opening and sorting mail, scanning documents, and data entry for a variety of business programs. In addition, you may be responsible for assisting staff with cash handling and the issuance and custody of serial numbered and non-serial numbered inventory in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this summer student opportunity, you are currently a full-time University or Community College student entering or returning to study in the fall or next applicable semester. Customer service industry experience is required. In addition, you demonstrate:

  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Team player skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong keyboarding and computer skills (Word, Internet and Email)

Data entry skills, cash handling experience and bilingual ability in French and English would be viewed as assets.

Proof of educational enrollment may be required.

Working Conditions

  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day,
  • Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
  • Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
  • May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

Additional Information

  • There are two (2) Summer Student positions available, based out of Sydney.
  • Successful candidates must be available to work during all hours of operation (ie. Monday & Friday 8:30-4:30 and Tuesday – Thursday 8:30-7:00).
  • This opportunity will start approximately May 1, 2024, with an end date of August 30, 2024.

Pay Grade:  HOURLY

Salary Range:  $17.86 – $29.11 Hourly
