About the Department of Justice

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is responsible for the administration of justice and for

promoting the safety and security of Nova Scotians through justice-related programs,

services, and initiatives. Correctional Services administers community and custody-based programs and services.

DOJ’s Correctional Services Division is excited about the opportunity to join the Correctional Services Division team. Correctional Services is in the process of revamping and updating its Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Program and associated processes.

While the Correctional Services Division will benefit from the fresh perspectives, ideas, and energy the successful candidate will provide, this opportunity will offer unique opportunities for the successful candidate to play an important role in shaping government programs in these key areas.

Job Description and Duties:

This role will assist in the refinement of the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Program for the DOJ.

The student will conduct cross-jurisdictional scans to obtain information and data on best practices in OHS in correctional settings. The student will participate in the development and implementation of policies, action plans, programs, and guidelines; conduct data analysis to determine trends and areas for improvement in OHS systems.

The student must be able to work independently in an efficient and effective manner to produce high quality timely results.

Employment is expected to start May 1, 2023. Wages to be determined.

Requirements: 

The following skills and experiences are considered essential:

  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills;
  • Proficiency in using Excel including add-ons
  • Capacity to manage various tasks while maintaining task deadlines;
  • Strong research and communication (written and verbal);
  • Experience completing and compiling research findings, data collection/analysis, and formal report writing;
  • Knowledge of performance measurement systems and accountability frameworks;

The successful candidate should be a self-motivated individual who wants to learn and can produce results when working independently.
