Job Title: Health Care Assistant
Reports to: Camp Director and Head Nurse
Pay: $84.32/Camp Day*
Bonus: $300.00 on completion of contract.
Date of Employment: May 21 – August 24, 2023

PURPOSE
The responsibility of the Nursing Assistant is to support the Health Care Manager in ensuring
the health and well-being of campers while in the care of Camp Tidnish. The Health Care
Assistant will conduct themselves in a professional manner and uphold and the values and high
standards of Easter Seals Nova Scotia and Camp Tidnish.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Graduate of, or current enrolment in, a recognized LPN, Pharmacy, Nursing or related
educational program
• Understanding of health and other issues related to providing services to persons with
disabilities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Effective time management skills
• Medication awareness training

QUALIFICATIONS
• Current Standard First Aid with AED/CPR C or HCP Certification
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Experience working in a camp setting and working with or volunteering with persons
with disabilities considered an asset though not a requirement
• Must possess clear Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Search/child abuse registry
check
Under the supervision of the Health Care Manager (Under the overall supervision of the
Camp Director) the Health Care Assistant will:
• Take part in all recommended training sessions
• Take responsibility for all aspects of health, safety, and welfare of the campers and staff
• Be responsible to maintain all health and safety aspects of the camp in the highest possible
level, in cooperation with other camp staff and in a professional manner
• Be responsible to assist in the administration of campers’ medications and treatments
according to physicians’ orders and at the scheduled time
• Be responsible to record every medication administered to campers
• Be responsible to ensure Health Lodge is locked when not in attendance
• Be responsible to let staff know their whereabouts at ALL times
• Be responsible to report all admissions to the Health Lodge to Health Care Manager/Camp
Director
• Be responsible to assist Health Care Manager with regular cleaning and sanitizing of the
Health Lodge throughout the camping season
• Be available to campers and staff 24 hours per day during the camp session
• Assist the Head Nurse in posting bath and bowel charts in every cabin, check daily, and take
appropriate action as required
• Be responsible to manage minor cuts, abrasions, bruises, and other minor injuries from
campers and staff
• Be responsible to ensure staff and campers have adequate protection from sunburn,
sunstroke, and mosquito bites with regular consumption of fluids and application of sun
block and mosquito repellent
• Be responsible to assist with camper activities when primary Infirmary responsibilities are
completed
• Other duties as required.
*Room and board included in pay.
Camp Tidnish operates from May 14 – August 30, 2023. During this time, the staff is required to
live on site during camp sessions and to be on call as required to provide effective support for
our campers. Hours of work are directly related to a typical camp day (7 a.m. – 10 p.m.) plus any
additional hours required fulfilling the duties associated with the position.
Easter Seals Nova Scotia requires all employees, volunteers, and participants to be fully
vaccinated against Covid-19.

COVID POLICY:
Effective October 1, 2021, full 2-dose vaccinations will be mandatory for all staff, clients,
program participants and volunteers directly associated with program delivery through Easter
Seals Nova Scotia. Proof of vaccination will be required. Those who cannot to be vaccinated for
medical, religious, or cultural reasons must be tested for Co-Vid twice a week through our
Workplace Screening Program.
