Island Employment, an innovative and dynamic organization with 19 years of experience in providing employment programs and services to residents of Cape Breton, is currently seeking to fill the full time term position of Student Internship at Nova Scotia Works-Island Employment Sydney location.
Island Employment is an innovative and dynamic organization currently seeking students to fill a Student Internship position within our Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre. Working cohesively within a team of career development professionals and alongside the Information Resource Specialists (IRS), the Student Intern at Island Employment will support the organization’s goals of providing employment and career assistance to individuals accessing our services.

The duties of this position consist of supporting the IRS (Information Resource Specialist) with the following tasks, but are not limited to:
– Develop and maintain internal records, files, databases, and resource centre information
– Input, analyze and review historical data to help understand operational trends and patterns
– Book/manage client appointments and manage flow of service delivery within the resource centre
– Assist clients in the preparation of job search materials, the use of technology, and providing general advice
– Refer incoming clients to appropriate interventions or resources where appropriate
– Manage the job board in the resource centre
– Record accurate meeting minutes for weekly staff meetings
– Maintain, in strict confidence, individual client information and records
– Support the delivery of front end/job search services to all Nova Scotians
– Provide youth with job search support
– Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

– Preference will be given to students studying in the fields of human services, human resources, education, social work, social sciences, and humanities.
– English essential, with preference given to candidates fluent in other languages
– Experience delivering services and support in a client-centered work environment
– Strong computer skills across the Microsoft Office suite combined with reliable typing speed and accuracy
– Working knowledge of the labour market and educational/training opportunities at the local/provincial levels and beyond
– Well versed in job search techniques and familiarity with career related resource materials
– Successful candidate will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement

Supervision:
The students will be supervised and mentored by the Operations Manager.
Hours of Work: The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30, at the Island Employment office, 500 George Street, Unit 100, Sydney, NS.
Term: 16 weeks, beginning May 11, 2020.
