Who We Are?

Global Wealth Management is an integral part of Scotiabank. We deliver value by tailoring our investment management solutions and advice whether it’s online, in branches or through an advisor. We are passionate and committed to a simple goal – enriching the lives of our clients! Join our new graduate program, Ascend Investment Specialist Career Kick Starter program and be part of the epic momentum 2020 will bring!

Your Career in the Program:

Wealth Management is big, and it’s important, and more than ever – investors, analysts and leaders are focused on helping clients achieve their financial goals. This program is an investment in you and in your professional development. We want to expose you to as much of the “Investment Specialist” world as possible to develop and launch your career. This isn’t about “finding a job” – if you’re a candidate for this program, you’re that top 5% and you have no problems “finding a job”. This is for people who want a destination career, have a passion for financial planning and investments, and who want to be in control of their own success.

You will join our Ascend Program as a full-time permanent employee. During the 12 months in the Ascend Program you will complete four phases that will position you for success in the Investment Specialist role. This is key to your development and aims to ensure you receive a variety of learning and practical experiences, at a pace that marries the training you need with your desire to get started. We want you to discover your passion and thrive! Sound intense? It is. You’ll hone critical selling and advice skills: identifying and contacting target clients, understanding client needs, creating financial plans, recommending investment solutions, and ongoing relationship management. You will also learn the tools and techniques that would generally take years to perfect outside of this program. We will teach you the foundations and give you the opportunity to put it all together and into action.

But wait there’s more. Perhaps the best part of the Ascend program is that you will be part of a cohort of recent graduates, joining at the same time. A big component of the program is the social and community aspect. You will train together, come together for socials, learning and development sessions, and have a program manager dedicated to you and your group. At Scotiabank, we are passionate about relationships, your development and success.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

This program is for students who have just graduated or who are about to and are looking to grab a hold of their career now. The people who are well-suited for this role have an entrepreneurial spirit, are self-starters, imaginative, direct, and self-confident. They are natural influencers and can be persuasive. They are independent, active, love being on the move, and work at a fast pace. They build long lasting relationships and are driven by the need to achieve excellence. They challenge themselves, and the team members around them, to be better every single day.

We believe in relationships, so we want someone that loves people, is competitive and driven and who wants to win. Innovation is key – another part of the entrepreneurial mind set we’re looking for. If you think this program is “just a job” you couldn’t be more wrong. This is for those that are ambitious and eager to do the work to reach their goals.

For students, we are more focused on who you are and what you will be, rather than the experience you’ve acquired to date. We recognize that any experience helps to shape you, along with your contributions to extracurriculars and volunteering. You will need a University Undergraduate Degree or Post-Graduate Diploma or MBA/Masters Degree by the time the program starts (June 2021). You will also need your license to sell mutual funds (IFIC or CSC) to be completed prior to the program start and upon joining you will be required to enrol in your PFP or CFP.

How to apply?

For students, we are focused on learning about who you are and what you’re interested in to uncover your true potential.  In short, we don’t believe resumes will provide us with an accurate depiction of what you’re truly about to properly assess your potential.  Instead we want to get to know YOU and hear about the experiences that have shaped you. We know… this might sound crazy but for students applying to one of our co-ops, internships or TILT new grad programs we are no longer requiring resumes. Instead we ask that as part of your application, you complete the below:

  • Complete your PLUM Profile: https://bit.ly/37jbtTJ
  • Apply to the role through our career site! When the application asks for your resume, instead upload a screenshot of your plum to show us you’ve completed it, we have full access to your entire profile from Plum and won’t use the screenshot but it’s a great reminder for each of you to have completed it. Alternatively, you can submit a resume if you want, we just will not be relying on it when we assess you. Applications are due February 1, 2021.
