RECENT OR POTENTIAL GRADS: Vice-Principal, L’nu Sipuk Kina’Muokuom (LSK)

General Description:

Under the direction of the School Principal this position is responsible for supervising the students and staff of LSK as determined by the Principal. LSK includes Primary to Grade 12 with approximately 300 Mi’kmaq students. The Vice-Principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program.

Main Responsibilities:

▪ Assist with the successful implementation of Primary to Grade 12 programs, services and goals that includes implementing student orientation and registration activities.

▪ Take reasonable steps to create and maintain a safe, orderly, positive, and effective learning environment that includes carrying out disciplinary measures when necessary.

▪ Assist with the Supervision, mentoring and evaluation of LSK staff according to established policies, legislation and protocols.

▪ Assist with budget preparation and monitoring.

▪ Communicate regularly with parents of students.

▪ Assist with the maintenance of staff records (e.g. Criminal record Checks, Child Abuse Registry Checks, Teacher’s Licenses, incident reports, Disability claims, performance matters, etc.);

▪ Fill in to teach classes during teacher shortages; and,

▪ Other administrative duties as determined by the Supervisor such as organizing events, preparing reports, attending meetings, etc.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or equivalent, or currently enrolled in a master’s Program.

• A minimum of five years of teaching experience. A combination of education and experience will be given consideration.

• Familiar with all aspects of school functions from teaching to administration.

• Strong communication skills to regularly communicate with parents, staff and students.

• Strong knowledge of the Mi’kmaq culture, history and language and/or ability to learn.

• Multicultural awareness, gender sensitivity, racial and ethnic appreciation.

• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn school databases/technology.

• Strong leadership, conflict management, crisis management and writing skills; and,

• A criminal records and child abuse registry check is required.
