Nuwelcom is a quickly growing 2 1/2-year-old Social Enterprise that builds technology to instantly deliver personalized, translated, certified official information to smartphones in multiple languages. We are unique because of our commitment to the privacy of our users demonstrated by never selling their data. We give subscribers information they can use when they need it in their own language. We have 7500 daily users on PEI alone. Now we are expanding throughout Atlantic Canada. We are commercializing one of our digital messaging tools which has a globally unique selling advantage and which will be released world-wide in 2023.

 

Who You Are

 

We are looking for a Software Development Team Lead.

 

You are an experienced developer and community builder who is a curious life-long learner.

You love building and inspiring a team of diverse, respectful, happy, dedicated people.

You understand the immigrant experience because either you are one, your family immigrated, or you personally understand the value of an inclusive society.

You have post-secondary credentials or equivalent work experience.

You are a strategic thinker.

You have 3 – 5 years of experience in a progressive career path in software development and team leadership.

You have 5+ years experience working in the software industry.

You have demonstrated an ability to maintain a broad overview of both technica land business challenges in order to achieve long term goals while realising short term objectives.

You are experienced with debugging, performance profiling, and optimization.

You show strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.

You have software development experience in PHP and are familiar with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Nodejs,React, MySQL and APIs

You have a working knowledge with on frameworks like Laravel

You are well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of current business concepts.

You have a passion for and experience in growing world class, high-performance software development teams.

You build technology that provides quantifiable value to our customers.

You are a good listener who gets things done on time who wants to join a growing movement of welcoming people.

You do NOT need excellent English language skills. Our collaborations often use our patented secure messaging tool allowing us to communicate in the language among our current 12 in which you feelmost comfortable.

 

 

What You Will Do

 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

Supervising, inspiring and mentoring the teams building tech tools to help newcomers contribute to their communities unhindered by language restrictions.

Supervising the happy teams building confidence in our thousands of users by providing tools to let their contributions be recognized and valued.

Designing, developing, and unit testing applications in accordance with established standards.

Developing, refining, and tuning integrations between applications.

Troubleshooting, testing and maintaining the core product software and databases to ensure strong optimization and functionality.

Guiding team development towards successful project delivery.

Providing technical leadership to teammates through coaching and mentorship.

Maintaining high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.

Preparing reports, manuals, and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software.

Providing regular and effective progress updates to Project Managers to ensure the management of any delivery risks or issues.

Defining delivery phases of the project including activities, sub-activities, and milestones ensuring tasks are documented and used as the basis for the project event log, issues and risk log and any subsequent reporting.

Success in this role will be measured by:

 

Achievement of milestones to plan.

Maintenance and encouragement of successful team members, identification of unsuccessful team members and attraction of valuable new team members.

Collaborating with other senior team members including Director of Sales where responsibilities will include support of commercialized tool development:

 

Creating buyer enablement &value engineering
Creating prospect demo automation
Creating content, FAQs and pitch support
Creating value engineering business cases – proof of value
Creating closed loop customer feedback collection assessments

Where and When You Will Do It

This position will report directly to the Co-CEOKhalid Shami.

The team works in a sunny, clean collaborative space in Charlottetown, PEI, the capital city of Canada’s Food Island. The studio is filled with a fun-to-be-around, young crew in an open office along the Confederation Trail (people bike to work in summer and take public transit in winter) near lots of restaurants, patios and parks. We are happy to work from one of the most beautiful locations on the planet with clean air, water, world renowned beaches and plentiful wildlife. We live in a quiet, safe, creative hub with easy access to the major centres of Canada like Toronto, Montreal and Halifax and the US Eastern Seaboard cities like Boston and New York. (of course, we are open to you working remotely, but with this opportunity – why would you want to?)

The Position begins April 3, 2023
