Intern Designer, Content – Winter 2022 Co-op

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

During the course of the work term you agree that you will be working from a remote / home office location in Canada in accordance with any applicable RBC policy. You confirm that you have the capability to work from a remote / home location in Canada.

What is the opportunity?

Our goal is to become our industry’s leader in exceptional web, mobile and wearable experiences. To get there, we’re transforming the way we think about our digital platforms. We’re putting strategy, design principles and technical innovation at the centre of everything we do. To bring our new process to life, we need bright people who get excited about the possibilities of digital technologies. Maybe you’re one of the bright people we’re looking for. If you are, we’d like to get to know you now, before you’ve finished your education. As a member of our Design Group, you’ll work with a close-knit and collaborative team. And you’ll do it in a space that overlooks Lake Ontario and offers easy access to the TTC, PATH, New Blue Edge and city bike paths.

We want every point of contact with our RBC clients to feel important to them. That’s where you come in. Content designers shape the story we tell through each of our digital experiences. Your job is to make sure that story talks about their lives and what they need, not about the tangles of banking regulations or the technologies we build to make it happen. To do that, you need to think strategically about the creation and delivery of our content: what we say, how we say it, and where we deliver each piece of that message. You’ll collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines to define the core value of the digital products we design and build. You’ll make sure that every experience – from the overtly promotional to the purely transactional – describes its core value as our clients move through and engage with it. In short: you’ll content to bring our digital products to life.

What will you do?

– Participate in group brainstorms and ideation sessions

– Help every project team to understand how content shapes our clients’ experience of the product or service before them

– Work closely with business stakeholders to become a subject matter expert on the client offering

– Apply all the tools available in your strategic kit: content audits, competitive analyses, content mapping

– Collaborate closely with Interface Designers, Visual Designers, Front-end Developers and Product Managers to shape the value proposition of the experiences we design and build

– Develop concepts and plans for client testing

– Consider the additional or alternate content required to make our experiences accessible to clients using assistive technologies

– Write really well, finding the best ways to bring the RBC digital voice to life as you help clients to do what matters most to them

– Demonstrate an elevated ability to describe technical processes simply and to distill a lot of information into a few clear statements

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

– Enrollment in a post-secondary institution (university or college) in a degree program that’s helping you to develop and refine your communication skills and your facility in using language as a plastic design medium

– Experience writing for an audience outside your area of expertise (practice communicating ideas to people who may not already know what you’re talking about)

– Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills

– Excellent problem-solving skills

– Ability to manage your workload and commitments within given timelines

– An Attention to details

Nice-to-have

– Aptitude for self-starting, for discovering what needs to be done, even when no one else sees it

– Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues from other disciplines and your own

– Willingness to challenge the opinions of the group with respect and the comfort to receive those same challenges from others

– Facility in French

– Knowledge of design and technology trends

*Please share examples of your writing that demonstrate that you’re a good fit with our team, by merging a document with your resume when you apply.*

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

– Ability to make a difference and lasting impact

– Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team

– Opportunities to do challenging work
