Human Resources Specialist

Under the supervision of the Regional Human Resources Director, the Human Resources Specialist will act as a generalist and will need to manage Human Resources activities in order to contribute to the effective course of operations in a unionized environment. The successful candidate will provide coaching for management in order to provide them the tools to attain their organizational and business objectives. Furthermore, he or she will manage and provide expert advice on a variety of topics including employee compensation and benefits, workplace investigations, workplace accommodations and attendance management. This position is based at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Enfield, Nova Scotia.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the management team with the handling of performance and employee fidelity within a unionized environment.
  • Responsible for all facets of the attendance management program including preparation and distribution of applicable discipline.
  • Assist the Regional Human Resources Director in the implementation and application of programs, policies, plans and processes, and to serve as a source of advice to management and staff as to their interpretation and application.
  • Conduct internal investigations as necessary, including drafting appropriate questions, conducting investigations and preparation of final reports.
  • Ensures awareness and compliance with company policies, practices, and applicable employment legislation.
  • Preparation and analysis of various HR metrics and reports.
  • Evaluation and decisions on workplace accommodation requests in consideration of applicable Human Rights legislation.
  • Participate in Human Resources projects as required.

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • University Degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of pertinent experience in a unionized environment.
  • Familiar with and can apply applicable Federal legislation.
  • Comfortable working under pressure, as well as multi-tasking.
  • Strong communication skills with a tactful approach to conflict resolution.
  • Client oriented, and comfortable in an advisory role.
  • Easily creates interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated professional maturity and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Be willing to undergo extensive security and reference checks.
  • Bilingualism an asset.
  • Must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status.
