Now we are excited to partner with Stewart McKelvey in recruiting a Financial Analyst to join their team in Halifax, NS. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting & Analysis, the Financial Analyst with be responsible for preparation of regular financial and non-financial reporting, variance analyses, business decision support analysis and various other duties within the Finance department.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the completion and accuracy of various management reports;
  • Complete variance analysis of financial statement lines through comparison of actual, budgets, forecasts and last year lines;
  • Prepare period accruals and other entries as necessary;
  • Various ad-hoc analysis and requests for reporting for senior management;
  • Detailed monthly analysis and reconciliation of various general ledger accounts;
  • Monthly and quarterly reporting of financial data including reconciliations to budget;
  • Monthly and quarterly reporting of non-financial data for senior management;
  • Monthly reconciling of bank accounts;
  • Assist with various treasury related functions including loan administration and preparing cash flow reports;
  • Reporting of fixed assets including continuity of fixed asset additions, disposals and capital planning analyses;
  • Assist in preparing for the annual audit;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or equivalent, with a focus in Accounting / Finance;
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting environment, preferably in a legal or professional services environment;
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel are a requirement;
  • High attention to detail; and
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the economics of a business.
