About Us

The Legal Services Division of the Department of Justice is the government’s law office, responsible for the provision of all legal services (excluding prosecutions) to the Province of Nova Scotia.  The lawyers in the Legal Services Division provide legal advice and services on a broad range of matters to the Government and many of its agencies, boards and commissions. The professional support staff provide day to day support to the lawyers and senior management. The Legal Services Division consists of Solicitor Services, Litigation Services (including Child Protection) and the Registry of Regulations. About Our Opportunity

As the File Clerk, you will provide high quality, general filing management support within the Legal Services Division.  In particular, you will assist in file creation, tracking, printing and file archiving. You will be responsible for creating, tracking and managing General Litigation files.

Primary Accountabilities

  • files material in accordance with standard procedures
  • retrieves files and withdraws material or information
  • maintains records of material removed from files, date-stamps materials, and types labels
  • compiles simple summaries of information relating to documents processed
  • receives, sorts, and distributes mail
  • photocopies, sorts, and binds documents
  • scans material into computer software programs
  • may assist senior clerks

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you possess a minimum of a high school diploma. In addition, you have excellent communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills, and you can work with minimal supervision. You also have excellent attention to detail and understand the importance of respecting the confidential nature of documents. Furthermore, you are proficient with standard computer software (including MS Word), and file management.

Previous experience in a professional office environment, knowledge of legal terminology, and working as part of a team would be considered assets.  Strong dicta typing and data entry skills would also be an asset.

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  CL 05 – CL 09

Salary Range:  $1,195.15 – $1,407.60 Bi-Weekly
