Fiber Optic Splicer – Aerial Splicing (Halifax, NS)

VistaCare Communications is a leading telecommunications and technology solutions provider for a wide range of businesses and organizations. We are currently seeking experienced and motivated Fibre Optic Splicing Technicians to join our operations in Halifax and Area in Nova Scotia for permanent, full-time positions. Fibre Optic Technicians are involved in all facets of fibre splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing and troubleshooting.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fibre sites and links
  • Documenting and reporting on completed telecommunication work
  • Maintaining project and telecom safety documentation
  • Inspecting fibre routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
  • Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled
  • Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
  • Reviewing engineered plans and blueprints
Knowledge and Skills: 
  • Proficient in fibre cable termination with connectors
  • Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, confined spaces, isolation
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding atmosphere including, but is not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels)
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized
Experience Required: 
  • Experience in Aerial Fibre Splicing is considered an asset
  • Technical training considered an asset
  • Previous telecommunications experience and testing for improved experience
  • Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical or working around power
  • Engineering experience considered an asset
  • Preference given to those with additional experience or FTTX / FTTH project experience
Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license (preference given to Class 3 /Airbrakes and above), reasonable driver abstract
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
