$68,666 to $77,696 (This salary range applies to EC-03 group and level. The target level of EC-06 has a salary range of $100,121 to $116,116)

Minimum Education Required

Candidates must have or be working on a Master’s degree* from a recognized university in one of the following fields:

  • Economics
  • Public policy
  • administration-International relations
  • studies-Business administration in finance

*CANDIDATES MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THEIR MASTER’S DEGREE BY DECEMBER 31, 2022. Candidates hired will participate in the Economic and Social Sciences Services Developmental Program (ECDP).

Specialization in economics

university coursework must include the equivalent of at least three full-year undergraduate or graduate courses in economics (or six half-year courses) by the time of graduation. Candidates who have a concentration in finance at the Master’s degree level and three or more half-year post-secondary courses in economics will be considered.

Academic excellence

Candidates must have obtained a grade point average (GPA) equivalent to 75 per cent or higher on their last completed Bachelor’s degree.

Job Description

Master’s graduates hired under the Economist and Policy Analyst stream are involved in all aspects of the Department’s work. They conduct policy analysis and forecasts, perform research, and provide recommendations on a wide variety of public policy issues. Recruits can choose to specialize in a particular area of the Department of Finance, or can gain experience in a number of different areas of the Department.
