Position: Farm Business Intelligence Data Intern
Location: Remote with several in-person meetings in Halifax or Truro/Bible Hill regional area.
Duration: 8 months (May to December 2024)

About Us
The Mooanalytica Research Group, led by Professor Suresh Neethirajan at Dalhousie University, is dedicated to pioneering research in digital livestock farming. Our focus lies in leveraging advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensors-enabled data to enhance animal welfare, improve farm animal health, and develop innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and climate change.

Responsibilities

Data Analysis: Analyze diverse datasets including climate change emissions, biomedical wearable device outputs, and accelerometer data. Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
Machine Learning and AI Application: Apply AI and machine learning algorithms to predict emissions levels and inform best practices. Develop and implement ML models for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions analysis.
Technical Report Writing: Compile comprehensive technical reports documenting research findings, insights, and recommendations. Effectively communicate complex information to various stakeholders.
Project Management: Drive the project forward by contributing to team objectives and project milestones. Actively participate in discussions, propose innovative ideas, and collaborate with team members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize AI and machine learning algorithms to analyze data and identify patterns for predicting emissions levels.
  • Establish performance benchmarks for dairy farms and generate actionable recommendations for emissions reduction.
  • Develop a robust data integration system and intuitive dashboard interface for real-time data visualization and analysis
  • Implement and test a decision-support tool in real-world conditions to validate its effectiveness.

Required Skills

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis, deep learning, machine learning, and potentially Python Full Stack Web Development.
  • Experience with AI algorithms, statistical modeling, and multilevel analysis is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with climate change emissions, animal welfare, and dairy and poultry farming practices is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data sets.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and drive projects forward.

Preferred Skills

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and dashboard development programs such as Tableau, PowerBI.

Eligibility – This internship opportunity is open to both Master’s and Senior Undergraduate Students
