About the Opportunity

The CPA Student role reports to rotating Managers based on the CPA Pre-Approved Program 30 month Schedule. The CPA Student will work across the below noted Finance and Internal Audit teams, (potentially other areas as required), while working towards obtaining sufficient depth and breadth across the six CPA Program Competencies by completing the below noted technical competencies (Department: Competency (technical competencies):

  • Budget: Management Accounting (planning and budgeting)
  • Capital Accounting: Finance (capital budgeting, valuation, corporate finance); Financial Reporting (financial report preparation, accounting policies and transactions)
  • Financial Analytics: Management Accounting (forecasting and variance analysis, ongoing maintenance of budget, case costing analytics); Finance (financial planning and analysis)
  • General Accounting: Financial Reporting (financial reporting needs and systems, accounting policies and transactions, financial report preparation, financial statement analysis)
  • Internal Audit: Audit and Assurance (internal audit basis and risk assessment, internal audit projects risk response and reporting)
  • Internal Controls: Audit and Assurance (internal control)
  • Strategic Planning:  Strategy and Governance (strategy development and implementation)

This position will be assigned accountability for day to day work and strategic initiatives from each of the above noted departments (projects, process work, focus groups, committees, etc.).  This role will be responsible to provide expertise and analysis, as noted above, in a timely and accurate manner to support management decisions.  This is to support not only finance managers but also to support other NSH leaders (Directors, Managers, Physician Leaders, etc.).

About You

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Eligible to be admitted into the CPA professional education program
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possesses a solid understanding of the finance processes and key performance indicators
  • Behave in a professional and ethical manner that exemplifies the role of a professional accountant (CPA enabling competency)
  • Self management (CPA enabling competency)
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • x 2 Student positions; 75 hours biweekly with an approximate start date of May 01, 2023 and an expected end date of December 31, 2025 (approx. 31 months)
