Nova Scotia Works – Northside Employment and Resource Centre (NEDAC) is looking for a dynamic self-starter to join our team. They will fulfil the duties of the Career Practitioner, supporting our Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centres. In joining NEDAC you will become part of a dedicated team of individuals with great passion for supporting each other and the communities in which we serve.

The Northside Employment & Resource Centre is a Nova Scotia Works Employment Services Centre. We have been delivering employment-related programs and services to both job seekers and employers in our community for 25 years. Our organization is seeking an individual who is passionate about serving the community and its members.

This position also offers some financial supports and incentives including wrap around supports and travel reimbursement.

Nature & Scope:

The Nova Scotia Works – Northside Employment and Resource Centre delivers a comprehensive service for unemployed individuals in the North Sydney, Baddeck and Ingonish areas, providing one-on-one coaching, employment assessments, needs determination, case management, job development as well as linking clients to appropriate community resources. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Career Practitioner will be responsible for client Case Management, facilitating Employment Readiness workshops and facilitating application processes for Employment Nova Scotia funded programs with clients.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Community Outreach
  • Conducting needs assessments
  • Identify client’s barriers to employment
  • Developing a client action plan to address barriers to employment
  • Managing client files and maintaining client database
  • Monitoring, evaluating and adjusting action plan as needed
  • Providing follow up with clients and recording outcomes
  • Submitting monthly statistical and activity reports to manager
  • Perform Needs Assessment to identify/address barriers to employment
  • Develop Return-to-Work-Action Plan (RTWAP) and RTWAP ManagementCounsel clients through various employability dimensions such as career decision-making, job search, job maintenance, skills enhancement and more Assess need for assistance such as diagnostic referrals (ex: career counseling, accommodation assessment, psycho-educational assessments etc.)
  • Support the client in creating and submit funding applications

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Post-secondary Education in Human Service or related field of study or a combination of education and work related/community and volunteer experience
  • Experience in Micro Soft Word, Internet/ Email
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory CriminalRecord Check.Skills & Competencies:

  • Ability to access and effectively use information and communication technology
