Job description:

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to facilitate the development of an online training program for science communication skills. The training program will help researchers improve their science communication in media interviews and social media channels. Professional experts will lead a series of modules that the researchers will participate in. The modules will also be recorded on video, edited with intros and exits, and uploaded to the internet for ongoing use. The role of the Project Coordinator is to advertise the workshops, organize the training modules, manage the participants, and to upload the videos and supplementary materials onto an online platform. A self-guided video recording studio (“One Button”) will also be established in the library and the Project Coordinator will assist with the set up and initial training for potential users. We envision that most of the work will be done off-campus using online tools. However, limited onsite interactions using proper COVID-19 prevention methods may be required.

Qualifications and timing of the contract:

We are seeking experienced project managers; however, students and recent graduates may apply. The successful applicant must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. They must also have excellent written and oral communication skills. Someone with experience managing projects and people is preferred. They must be familiar with organizing and uploading content to a web platform. Experience with basic video editing would be also an asset. The position is a limited full-time position for 35hr/week and 12 weeks (420 hr total). There is some flexibility with allocation of overall hours. The initial planning and participant recruitment will occur in November/December 2020, with the planned start date for the training program to be January/February 2021.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work with the organizing team to coordinate the training program (i.e. scheduling the workshops and communicating with the professional experts).
  • Create and adhere to a manageable timeline to ensure the training session is completed and the modules and supplementary material are uploaded to a web platform before the end of the project.
  • Advertise the training program and help recruit participants.
  • Liaise with the One Button Studio technician to learn the features of the studio and create instructions for potential users/run demos or create short training video
  • Assist with final reporting for the training program
