FALL 2022 CO-OP: Science Atlantic – Communications and Member Engagement Assistant (virtual position)

About us:

Science Atlantic is a non-profit association for post-secondary faculty, researchers, and students in Atlantic Canada. Although now in our 60th year, we are in a period of growth!  Our goals in 2022 are to refine our value proposition, increase engagement of new and existing members, partners, and donors, and implement systems that improve online communication and connection. As well, we are developing a new strategic plan to launch in 2023.

To accomplish our goals, our small but dedicated core team works extensively with students, new graduates, and volunteers, providing employment experiences that provide opportunities to develop and enhance skills as well as have a meaningful impact on the organization. The organization was nominated for Dalhousie University’s Top 6 Co-op Employer on the Planet Award (2014) and Finalist for Youth Employer of the Year, Halifax Partnerships Game Changers (December 2018).

Responsibilities 

Working with a team including the Membership Officer, Executive Director, and other students, the successful candidate will support the development and delivery of key messages to current and potential partners, supporters, and members.  Tasks will include 3-5 of the following (based on the student’s interest and abilities):

 

  • Assist with developing Annual Report, webpages, and other materials
  • Research potential partners and sponsors and assist with drafting funding proposals
  • Assist Membership Officer with the 2022-2023 member renewal process
  • Assist with coordinating the 2022 Annual Members Meeting (AMM) in Halifax, Nov. 18-19 (planning can be completed remotely if student is not in Halifax)
  • Support volunteers at our member institutions with 60th anniversary event planning
  • Assist with the “Hall of Fame” and service pin program
  • Prepare stories about faculty and students, primarily through interviews
  • Develop onboarding material to assist members with new online community platform
  • Research and draft an advertising strategy using Google Ads, Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Assist with social media management

 

Required Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to work well in a team of staff and volunteers, mainly virtually
  • Flexible, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Tech friendly and eager to learn new software and platforms
  • Proficient in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Adobe Suite, Canva, or other graphic design experience
  • Responsible and able to work virtually; occasional in-person meetings if student is in Halifax
  • Asset: Experience working with Elementor or another visual website builder
  • Asset: Experience creating email marketing campaigns; familiarity with MailChimp
  • Asset: Experience with CRM such as HubSpot
  • Asset: Experience organizing special events; online engagement activities/campaigns
  • Asset: Experience managing social media for an organization

  • Contribute to projects that will increase member engagement
  • Increase the organization’s online presence
  • Develop reports, web content, newsletter content

 

Program of Study: Arts, Business, Commerce, Marketing, Public Relations, Psychology

Education Level: Minimum one year of post-secondary study completed

Salary: Starting at $16.00/hour, commensurate with experience. 35 hours/week (12-16 weeks)
