TruLeaf is a multi-disciplinary team with world-leading expertise in plant science, environmental controls, new product development, marketing, and supply chain management. Our farms, GoodLeaf Farms are focused on producing local and ultra-fresh greens, without pesticides. We do this in an innovative way using efficient vertical farming. We have an R&D farm in Bible Hill, NS and Canada’s first and only commercial scale vertical farm in Guelph, ON and are rapidly growing to other regions across Canada.

TruLeaf is currently seeking an Engineering Student to join our growing team of professionals in either our Bedford or Bible Hill, Nova Scotia locations. Students located in Bedford, Nova Scotia, may be requested to commute to Bible Hill on a casual basis (1-3 visits a month).

Reporting to the Director, Horticulture, the student will be responsible for:

  • Evaluating options with respect to various technology areas as they pertain to vertical farming and control agriculture
  • Conducting research and compiling technical information
  • Participating in engineering design projects and horticultural R&D activities

Material engineering responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting and reporting back on the physical and chemical properties of material
  • Characterizing current material substrate
  • Collecting data pertaining to agricultural activities
  • Running investigative trails
  • Conducting literature review on various topics as they pertain to Vertical Farming innovation
  • Other duties as required

Design engineering responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the design team with projects and day-to-day work as needed
  • Conducting research as it pertains to design initiatives for vertical farming

Qualifications:

  • A student currently completing a degree in Agricultural, Environmental, Materials, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical or other Engineering discipline that is currently enrolled in the co-operative education program
  • Previous experience related to your field of study would be considered an asset but is not required
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
