Job Title: Student Research Assistant – Bio Marine (Laboratory)

Location: Sydney, Nova Scotia

Term: 16 weeks (January – April 2023) or 32 weeks (January-August 2023)

Hours per week: 35 (or equivalent)

Salary: Depending on experience (min $16/hour)

Program of Study: Engineering, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Food Sciences (Science, Information Technology, Engineering Co-operative Education)

To support this challenge, the Bio Marine Team is currently seeking a student research assistant to support product/process development activities within our collaborative team environment.

 

Qualifications – An ideal student research assistant will:

· Be working towards an undergraduate degree in chemistry/biochemistry/chemical engineering/bioengineering/food science/microbiology/life sciences or similar fields;

· Willing to work with marine substrates;

· Have hand hands-on laboratory experience including some training in basic biochemistry techniques (such as but not limited to UV-vis spectrometer, enzymatic hydrolysis, solvent extractions, liquid chromatography, microplate reader, gas chromatography);

· Be organized, and able to record, analyse, and present experimental data;

· Willing to work in a small team in a fast-paced environment; and

· Demonstrate ability to work independently, responsibly and manage time efficiently, while multi-tasking.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist in upstream and downstream processing as necessary for the extraction or fractionation of specific compounds/fraction.

· Independently plan and perform analytical characterization, coordinate, and compile data for various projects.
