Winter 2021 Co-Op Student Opportunity – Business Analyst

Did you know JDI IT supports over 50 JDI businesses?  From Forestry, to Transportation, to Shipbuilding, we are working directly with our business counterparts to align their strategies to continued advancements in IT.  Our team of over 300 IT professionals support approximately 10,500 end-users across more than 600 applications implemented to support our businesses.

A work term with JDI IT provides a diverse experience working with our various divisions, and functional areas within them, with the goal of adding value through information technology.

Our Opportunity:

We are currently seeking Business Analyst Interns to join the Information Technology Division of J.D. Irving, Limited in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  The opportunity is focused on providing a well-rounded experience, that will expose the successful candidate to technical and business processes across various functional groups throughout the shipyard.

In recent years, JDI IT has worked hand-in-hand with Irving Shipbuilding to implement IT solutions and processes from procurement applications to automated shop floor manufacturing that has assisted in making Halifax Shipyard one of the most modern shipyards in the world

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university co-op program
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Desire to problem solve and work with others to map out processes to pinpoint potential improvements
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal English communication
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing methodologies

Planned Outcomes of the position:

  • Exposure to various business areas and their respective responsibilities, processes, etc.
  • Job shadowing opportunities and establishment of mentor relationships
  • On the job experience in an advanced manufacturing environment (shipbuilding industry)
