To meet the growing needs of our campus community, CBU recently tabled to its Board of Governors its most significant capital plan in University history. This means we’re investing in you!

As a University committed to exceptional teaching and learning, we’re investing in you through new space and campus upgrades, both in and outside of the classroom. New space and campus upgrade projects include:

Canada Games Complex (CGC)

An expanded Canada Games Complex will include a conference and event space, a fitness centre, the new Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre, studios for yoga, spin and dance, a walking track, as well as theatre-style spaces for lectures and presentations.

This space will also become Canada’s Home of Female Hockey, empowering girls and women to thrive in sport. Construction has already begun. Click here to learn more.

Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre

Formally located at entrance of the Canada Games Complex, the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre will temporarily shift locations and later return to a permanent home in the renovated Canada Games Complex.

Our physical health and mental health investments in the Centre will result in an enriched Health and Counselling Centre, new and expanded medical services and treatment spaces.

During the construction period, the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre has been moved to the MacDonald Residence and all appointments will be held in that location. Appointments can still be booked by calling 902-563-1359 or emailing healthservices@cbu.ca.

Centre for Discovery and Innovation

The Centre for Discovery and Innovation will house state-of-the-art research and instructional facilities that propel scientific inquiry, advance discovery and expedite local solutions for global problems. Featuring the latest in green technology and digital infrastructure, it will elevate Cape Breton Island as a national destination for research and a global destination for students.

The Forever CBU Campaign

The Canada Games Complex renovations, the expansion of the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre and the Centre for Discovery and Innovation are all part of the Forever CBU Campaign. This $50 million campaign is the largest in CBU’s history and will invest in scholarships and bursaries, infrastructure and programming. Funds have already been secured from the provincial and federal government, private corporations and the community. We will continue to work with our donors and Alumni to make this campaign a reality.  To learn more about the campaign or how to support our goals, click here.

The Cape Breton Medical Campus

On January 27, 2023 as part of his State of the Province address here in Cape Breton, Premier Tim Houston announced the Cape Breton Medical Campus would become a reality. On March 7, 2023, the Premier again travelled to Cape Breton and announced a $58.9 million investment in the medical campus. Of that amount, $49 million is for the creation of a medical sciences centre, $6.2 million will create a 10,000 patient Collaborative Clinic and $3.7 million will expand the Health and Counselling Centre at CBU.

The campus will open no later than the fall of 2025 and will train up to 30 students each year.
