To ensure accurate and efficient production, members of the University Community, who seek support services, will work with the Communication and Public Relation Department with an understanding of shared project responsibility.

The team advises on and offers support services in the following areas

Media Relations

The Communications and Public Relations Department plays an integral role in maintaining and strengthening the relationship the University holds with the media. Annually, the Communications and Public Relations Department shares a vast amount of university related information with its media colleagues through media releases, advisories and invitations. In addition, the Department receives hundreds of media inquiries on a diverse range of topics.

Media Release

A media release is a detailed communication piece that is distributed to media outlets and other targeted publications, with the purpose of sharing newsworthy information. The release includes pertinent information and quotes from key players providing media with sufficient information to publish the release or entice further interest.

Media Advisory

A media advisory is written document that is distributed to media outlets and other targeted publications about an upcoming press conference, announcement or other event.  A media advisory usually includes the basic details about the event, its schedule and location.

Media Invitation

A media invitation is a communication tool that is distributed to media outlets and other targeted publications to invite media representatives to attend press conferences, announcements and other special events. The invitation briefly addresses the five W’s - who, what, when, where, why.

If you require any of these communication services please submit the request form at least one week in advance.

Video Production

The Video Production Unit provides the University with a range of digital media services for promotional and academic purposes.  The Unit works with various departments to produce material that promotes the institution, with members of the faculty to create course materials and with students to design and assist with video assignments.

Students and faculty with projects involving digital media bring their ideas to the Video Production Unit, where they are able to develop their initial concept and use the unit’s equipment, technical support and other resources to carry it to completion through each stage of the production process.

In addition to providing streaming video of graduation ceremonies and documenting special events to video, the Unit provides technical services and resources to support the training of students, faculty and staff; to support video recording, editing, and duplication; and to support the digital conversion of analog video, printed images and documents, and the incorporation of a variety of digital media into PowerPoint presentations.

The Communications and Public Relations Department’s role in such instances is to work with the appropriate personnel to help mitigate the situation through external and internal communication while maintaining the institution’s reputation. The Department is obliged to communicate University activity with its multiple publics and does so by working with media and through the effective use of other communication channels.
