Geology

Geology is the study of the earth, its materials, its behaviour and its evolution. A geologist is an earth scientist concerned, on the one hand, with immediate and practical problems such as the discovery of mineral deposits, oil, natural gas and water; on the other hand, the earth scientist may be absorbed in the fascinating studies of the earth’s formation and subsequent history. The interests of many geologists reach outward to the moon and planets.

The common ground in all these fields is their intense interest in the chemical and physical nature of earth materials, the nature and effects of earth processes and the historical interpretation of the record.
