CBU Launches 12-Month Online Bachelor of Education Program

Cape Breton University (CBU) is proud to announce the launch of a 12-month online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program, designed to meet the growing demand for qualified teachers in Nova Scotia and beyond. This innovative program provides aspiring educators with a flexible, accessible pathway to the classroom while maintaining the high standards of teacher preparation at CBU.

“At CBU, we are committed to responding to the needs of our communities and the education system,” says President and Vice-Chancellor, David C. Dingwall. “Launching this 12-month online program is an example of how we can be innovative with our programming to ensure teachers are prepared and in classrooms as quickly as possible for this growing system.”

The online format allows students to complete their degree in just one year, helping address the urgent need for teachers in a rapidly expanding education system.

“By offering this program fully online, we are creating greater accessibility for future teachers across the province and beyond, including in rural areas of the province, says Dr. Ellyn Lyle, Dean of the School of Education and Health.  “This approach limits barriers and opens doors for individuals who may not have been able to pursue a traditional on-campus program, ultimately strengthening the education system.”

Admission for this program opened November 28, 2025.  First round of admissions gives priority to Nova Scotian residents, and all required documents must be submitted by January 9, 2026. If seats remain after the first round, a second round of applications will be accepted until February 6, 2026.
