CBU Announces Dr. Kevin Orrell as Special Advisor to the President

Dr. Kevin Orrell was recently appointed Special Advisor to the President of Cape Breton University. Orrell, a medical physician and orthopedic surgeon, will advise the President on the development of strategic health initiatives.

“Dr. Orrell will serve as a strong link between Cape Breton University and the Nova Scotia Government as we work together to find viable healthcare solutions for the people of this great province,” says President and Vice-Chancellor, David C. Dingwall. “With Dr. Orrell’s background and experience on various healthcare files he will prove to be a valuable asset to the CBU team.”

Orrell previously served as Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness, the CEO and Deputy Minister of the Office of Healthcare Professionals Recruitment, and as the Senior Medical Director for the Cape Breton Infrastructure Project. “I am thrilled to be working with Cape Breton University in this capacity,” says Dr. Orrell. “CBU has always been a strong leader in the community and is clearly dedicated and committed to finding health care solutions that will benefit those in need. Through my role as special advisor to the President, I am looking forward to fostering strong relationships and working in partnership with government and other stakeholders to be part of the solution that Nova Scotians need and deserve.”

In addition to his work as special advisor, Dr. Orrell will also work with the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre to assist in enhancing the health care offerings on campus for students and the CBU community.
