Cape Breton University to Welcome New Students with a Week of Festivities

Cape Breton University is excited to welcome its latest cohort of students this week, with the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 4, and new students will have the opportunity to learn all about life at the University and the beautiful Island it is located on, during Week of Welcome (WOW).

Week of Welcome is designed to give new students the chance to create meaningful and memorable experiences at CBU prior to the beginning of classes. With many fun and educational events, WOW is CBU’s way of welcoming students to the Caper family.

“Week of Welcome is an exciting time for members of the Cape Breton University community, and we are thrilled to have so many options and events that students, new and returning, can get involved in,” says President David C. Dingwall. “University is an important milestone in the lives of students, and it is important to us at CBU that we create an exceptional and welcoming experience for all those who chose to study with us.”

Community members are invited to join in the celebrations by attending CBU World Jam, a free community concert featuring live music from award winning musicians Morgan Tony, Rankin MacInnis and the Broken Reeds, alongside various student performances. There will also be multi-cultural celebrations, family games and other activities. This event takes place on Thursday, September 5, at 6:00pm in the CBU Courtyard.

Community members are also invited to join the CBU community at the Caperfest Home Opener Weekend, where the CBU Capers Men’s and Women’s soccer teams will be playing their two opening home games to kick-off the latest season. The games will take place on Saturday, September 7, against the Dalhousie Tigers and Sunday, September 8, against the Acadia Axemen and Axewomen. The start times for both days are 1:00pm (Women’s) and 3:15pm (Men’s).

Though most events throughout Week of Welcome are meant for new students, we hope the community will join us at the CBU World Jam and Caperfest Home Opener Weekend in welcoming the new students to CBU and Cape Breton Island.
