Cape Breton University to Host Bell 2025 AUS Women’s Soccer Championship and Honour Yann Artur

Cape Breton University will host the Bell 2025 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Women’s Soccer Championship presented by Protocase from October 23 to 26 at the Ness Timmons Soccer Field.

The tournament will feature the top women’s soccer teams in the region competing for the AUS title and a berth at the U SPORTS National Championship. The CBU CAPERS Women’s team placed third in the regular season and will play their first match on Thursday, October 23, at 4:00pm against St. Francis Xavier University.

“We are pleased to welcome student-athletes, coaches and fans to our campus,” says John Ryan, Director of Athletics at Cape Breton University. “This event highlights the level of competition within Atlantic University Sport and the dedication of everyone who contributes to university athletics.”

Yann Artur has been named the Honorary Chair of this year’s championship. Artur recently retired from CBU following a long career that included work in athletics, administration and event operations.

“I was surprised and very honoured to be asked to serve as Honorary Chair,” says Artur. “Hosting this year’s AUS Championship at CBU is significant for both the University and the local community. Events like this bring people together, highlight the quality of soccer in Atlantic Canada and showcase Cape Breton on a broader stage. It’s a privilege to see the continued strength of the program and to be part of it in this way.”

“In every sport, there are leaders behind the scenes who make it all possible,” says Ryan. “As a coach, administrator and advocate for the game of soccer, Yann has shaped the sport not only on the field but in the lives of many players and in our community. We are honoured to recognize his commitment and leadership in advancing soccer at every level. He epitomizes hard work and teamwork, and has played a key role in the success of many events held at the Cape Breton Health and Recreation Complex during his tenure.”
