Cape Breton University to Celebrate Spring 2025 Convocation Ceremonies

Cape Breton University will soon mark a major milestone as the University celebrates its largest graduating class to date across eight ceremonies from May 26-30. The ceremonies are the first to take place at the newly renovated and renamed Kehoe Forum on the CBU campus.

“We are honoured to be celebrating this milestone in the lives of more than 3500 hard-working and deserving Cape Breton University students from around the world,” says President and Vice-Chancellor, David C. Dingwall. “As they commence the next chapter of their lives, going on to become members of the CBU Alumni family, we know they will achieve great things and wish them the very best of luck.”

The graduating class, made up of students from more than 27 different programs, will receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates in a variety of languages, including French, Gaelic and Mi’kmaq.

Alyssa Burke of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, will serve as one of the eight valedictorians this Spring as she receives her Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Chemistry. Alyssa will represent the graduating class alongside Ahmed Abdullah Mauroof (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Supply Chain Management), Kritica Deol (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Healthcare Management), Samkit Jain (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Healthcare Management), Chika Iwuji (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Management), Shivani Padalia (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Management), Rohan Vajirkar (Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Business Analytics) and Rabiat Yusuf (Bachelor of Business Administration).

“I’m truly proud and honoured to be one of the valedictorians for CBU’s largest graduating class ever,” says Alyssa. “This university has been such a meaningful part of my journey, and I’m deeply grateful for the connections and experiences that have shaped who I am today.”

Cape Breton University will also confer honorary doctorates on three individuals who have made a significant impact in their field and whose commitment to their community will leave a positive impact for generations to come. CBU will confer honorary degrees on Laura Lee Langley, Nancy Regan and John Gracie over the course of the eight ceremonies.

All members of the community are invited to the Kehoe Forum to celebrate the graduating class. Tickets are not required, however, seating is on a first-come first-served basis. The ceremony will also be livestreamed at cbu.ca/convocation.
