Cape Breton University is pleased to announce that the highly anticipated 8-month online Bachelor of Education program will proceed, with classes beginning in January 2025. This decision follows intensive collaboration with the Province of Nova Scotia and the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC), ensuring all program criteria and logistics align with the MPHEC’s standards of quality.
“At Cape Breton University, our students are at the heart of every decision we make,” says President and Vice-Chancellor, David Dingwall. “Over the past week, we have worked tirelessly with our partners to overcome significant challenges, ensuring that this program could proceed without compromising its quality or the experience of our students.”
The program’s reinstatement comes after a thorough review and adjustment of admissions requirements to align with MPHEC’s conditions to approval and provincial regulations. “We wish to thank the MPHEC for its guidance as we worked through what we saw as real obstacles to delivering the program,” says Rod Nicholls, Vice President Academic. “This decision reflects our deep commitment to innovation and to providing accessible, impactful education.”
Dr. Ellyn Lyle, Dean of Education, emphasizes the collaborative effort behind the program’s reinstatement. “The commitment of our faculty, staff and external partners has been extraordinary,” she says. “This program represents a unique opportunity to support aspiring educators across the region and we are eager to welcome our new cohort in January.”
CBU has contacted all applicants directly to guide them through the next steps in their journey. Advising for the program will begin when Cape Breton University reopens on January 2, with classes set to begin on January 6. As always, CBU remains committed to expanding opportunities for students while maintaining excellence in program delivery.
