Cape Breton University Accepting Nominations for Creative Arts Awards

Cape Breton University is proud to announce the establishment of six new Creative Arts Awards aimed at recognizing and celebrating outstanding contributions to the creative arts on campus and throughout the broader Unama’ki-Cape Breton community.

Nominations are now open for the inaugural awards, which will be presented on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at a special gala hosted at the Boardmore Playhouse, followed by a reception at the CBU Art Gallery. The initiative, spearheaded by a dedicated committee of faculty, staff and community members, will spotlight individuals and organizations whose work has significantly enriched the region’s creative arts sector.

The Creative Arts Awards:

  • The Father Donald Campbell Founder Award
    Recognizing individuals whose legacy in the creative arts has built lasting connections to academia and/or the community.
  • The Harry and Elizabeth Boardmore Builder Award
    Honouring those who have initiated creative arts projects and programming on campus and in the community.
  • The Dr. David Sneddon Volunteer Award
    Celebrating individuals or groups who have consistently offered their time and expertise to advance creative arts initiatives.
  • The Sons of Membertou Educator Award
    Recognizing those who have promoted and demonstrated the importance of creative arts as an educational tool.
  • The Caper Radio CBU Student Award
    Awarded to current or former students who have made impactful contributions to the creative arts on campus.

The awards will recognize remarkable contributions to the creative arts at CBU and across Unama’ki – Cape Breton, while also fostering opportunities for learning, networking and creative collaboration among artists, educators and community leaders. Nominations are open to anyone who has participated in or supported the creative arts sector in some capacity, whether within the University or in the greater community.

  • Selection of the appropriate award category
  • A letter of nomination
