CBU and CBUFA Ratify Agreement

To the Cape Breton University Community

Cape Breton University and the Cape Breton Faculty Association have now ratified the collective agreement that was reached on January 15, 2026.

“We are pleased to now have a collective agreement in place for the Cape Breton University Faculty Association,” says President and Vice-Chancellor David C. Dingwall.  “We deeply value the work of CBUFA members and recognize the central role they play in shaping the academic experience of our students. We look forward to continuing our important work together as we advance the mission and priorities of Cape Breton University. I’d also like to thank both bargaining teams for their dedication and commitment to reaching this agreement.”

Highlights of the agreement include:

  • An economic increase of 9% over a three-year period 
  • Participation in a Voluntary Retirement Incentive Program 
  • Updates to several articles to align with current practices
  • Establishment of a committee to monitor ongoing Indigenization of the collective agreement
  • Establishment of a committee to review and update the collective agreement related to distance and online learning

The teams are now working to finalize the document, which will be posted to web once complete.
