Teacher Professional Development Day – Centre for Sound Communities

Are you a CBVRCE teacher? Join CBU’s Centre for Sound Communities for a Professional Development Day where participants will learn how to use music, poetry and culture to develop students’ citizenship in a culturally diverse society.

During the workshop, participants will be introduced to expressions of Black music, poetry and culture to explore resources and lessons to develop students’ citizenship competencies in a socially and culturally diverse society.

9:15 – 10:30am Transatlantic Pilgrimage: A Project Highlighting Black Poetry, Musics, and Experience

10:30am Nutrition Break— Centre for Sound Communities Studio (with remaining sessions at the CSC)

11:00am-12:30pm Workshop: Teaching Culture and Music Using the Smithsonian Folkways Pathways (Bring a djembe if you have one!)

12:30pm Lunch (Bring a bag lunch or $ to purchase in CBU cafeteria)

1:15-2:15pm The West African Balafon

2:15pm Nutrition Break
