Canada has about 100 public funded universities but neither governments nor the general population want to support the prevailing model of academia. Challenging this attitude is difficult because universities are a genealogical mix, not the result of intelligent design.
So, academic work is motivated by overlapping, often contradictory purposes.
And if there is no insider consensus regarding the point of what we do, how can we represent ourselves to unenthusiastic outsiders?
Join Rod Nicholls, Vice-President Academic & Provost (Interim) on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 12:00-1:00pm in the Student Lounge, CBU Library for an exchange of ideas about the future of educational institutions in Canada and beyond.
No registration need, all are welcome and light refreshments will be served.
