The Future of Hockey Forum promises to be a significant gathering of hockey enthusiasts, industry professionals and thought leaders. This forum, set to take place at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 8:00am-5:00pm in Unama’ki – Cape Breton, aims to explore and shape the future of hockey and youth involvement.

It boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, highlighted by the keynote luncheon speaker, Andrew Ference, Director of Youth Strategy at the NHL and a Stanley Cup Champion. His keynote will be followed by a fireside chat with Amrit Gill from Hockey Night in Canada Punjabi. Outside of the luncheon, the forum also features notable panelists and presenters throughout the day, such as: Mary-Kay Messier, Vice-President of Global Marketing at Bauer; Marin Hickox, Vice President, Women & Girls Hockey at Hockey Canada; Dean Smith, Willie O’Ree Award Winner; and Ryan Francis, Indigenous Girls Hockey program co-founder.

These panel discussions will be moderated by our special guest Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Olympian and member of the Board of Hockey Canada. Cape Breton University will be represented by researchers from the Sport and Physical Activity Leadership program on a session moderated by Dr. Tanya Brann-Barrett which includes Dr. Bettina Callary, Dr. Simon Barrick and Shaun Ranni. CBU President David Dingwall will close this special conference on the Future of Hockey.
