Film Screening – Heightened Scrutiny (Trans Day of Visibility)

Join us at the Boardmore Theatre on Tuesday, March 31, at 5:00pm for a free screening of Heightened Scrutiny.

This event, presented by Judy Kelley, Director of Health and Counselling at CBU, in collaboration with the Nancy Dingwall Health and Counselling Centre, the CBU Library and the Department of Social Work, will take place on Trans Day of Visibility. All community members are invited to take part in the screening, followed by a brief “talk back” session where Dr. Catherine Bast and their wife, Mixhi, will discuss the importance of this film for Canadians interested in social work, medicine, law and public policy, and why they made the decision to relocate to Canada from the United States.

Overview: Fearless civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio battles at the Supreme Court for transgender adolescents’ access to gender-affirming healthcare, confronting not only the legal system but also a media landscape that distorts public perception and threatens the struggle for trans rights. With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare, Heightened Scrutiny is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.
