Join Dr. Carolina Bergonzoni, Assistant Professor, School of Education and Health for Cape Breton’s first Audio Description Live Theatre event and talk about the documentary A Christmas Carol: Moving Towards Accessible Live Theatre, produced in collaboration with the Highland Arts Theatre Association (The HAT).
In the screening and talk, Dr. Bergonzoni will share her experience developing Audio Description for this live theatre and musical production, showing audiences behind the scenes of how performances are made accessible for people who are blind or have low vision. She will discuss the research process, practical strategies and inclusive arts practices that guided the creation of Dancing Voices: An Audio Described Show, her latest SSHRC-funded project.
Dr. Bergonzoni is a dancer, somatic practitioner, educator and scholar. Her work draws on Critical Disability Studies, accessible arts-based education and curriculum studies, and she continues to lead initiatives that make live theatre and dance more accessible to audiences with visual impairments.
