Guest Speaker – Jay Dolmage, PhD

Join us in a conversation with Jay Dolmage on the topic of ‘Academic Ableism and its Alternatives’ during CBU’s very first Disability Acceptance Week.

Jay Dolmage is committed to disability justice in his scholarship, service, and teaching. His work brings together rhetoric, writing, disability studies and critical pedagogy.

Dolmage’s first book, titled Disability Rhetoric, was published with Syracuse University Press in 2014. Some of his other works include Academic Ableism: Disability and Higher Education, Disabled Upon Arrival: Eugenics, Immigration, and the Construction of Race and Disability. Jay Dolmage is also the Founding Editor of the Canadian Journal of Disability Studies.

Join us to learn more about various types of high- and low-tech assistive technology such as:

  • Glean for notetaking
  • CPEN/Scanmarker Air electronic highlighter
  • Magnifying sheet
  • Speech to text
  • Text to speech
  • Noise-canceling headphones
  • As well as other information on accommodations available through the JKC for students

Mythbusters Discussion Panel

Join us to further the discussion on various myths surrounding various disabilities and open discussion around accessibility, disability rights and more!

The panel will take on topics such as:

  • Busting common myths for various disabilities
  • open discussions around accessibility, disability rights, inclusion and accessibility on campus
