Artist on Campus: Mary MacIntosh

On Tuesday, March 15, and Wednesday, March 16, Mary MacIntosh will be taking over the Cafeteria for an Artist on Campus event.

Mary MacIntosh is a visual artist from Sydney, Nova Scotia. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textiles from NSCAD University in 2012, and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Nova Scotia. MacIntosh’s work is primarily embroidered, and her recent works incorporate themes surrounding the passage of time, her experiences of and relationships with the world, the fleeting and unreliable nature of memory, and the concepts of choice and free-will. In 2014, MacIntosh put her art career on hold to travel and pursue a career in teaching English as a Second Language. She returned to Canada and her professional artistic practice in 2020.

As part of CBU’s Artist-On-Campus program, MacIntosh is working on an ongoing project in a re-creation of her home studio. The ongoing project is a series of embroideries based on MacIntosh’s time spent in various nations. The duration of time spent on each piece is directly related to the time the artist spent in each country. Through this body of work, MacIntosh hopes to foster a dialogue on the time it takes and one’s ability to develop relationships and lasting impressions of a particular place, be it as a traveller or as a resident.
