CBU to Host Our Roots: Perseverance Will Triumph as Strategic Planning Process Continues

As part of a recently launched Strategic Planning process, Cape Breton University will host Our Roots: Perseverance Will Triumph on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The community event will explore CBU’s history through storytelling, music and video and will take place in the Boardmore Theatre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“This historical event will serve to map the unique history of Cape Breton University and its predecessor institutions,” says David C. Dingwall, CBU President.  “The University was born from a need within the Cape Breton Island community and it’s important that we embrace that as we move forward. We are applying the adage that you have to know where you come from to really know where you’re going.”
Narrated by Rod Nichols, Faculty Advisor of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, the event will explore CBU’s evolution over time from its beginning as Xavier Junior College, Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology, College of Cape Breton, University College of Cape Breton to how it is known today as Cape Breton University. The interactive event will feature first-person recollections, video and music that will explore the history of CBU.
The presentation will thematically explore:

  • The Need
  • The Perseverance
  • The Uniqueness
  • The Community
  • The Now

Refreshments will be provided following the event in the Multiversity room where attendees are encouraged to have follow-up discussion. All members of the community are welcome and can RSVP by emailing strategicplanning@cbu.ca.
This event will be live-streamed on our Facebook Page.
