Stefanie Ruel

Assistant Professor

Stefanie Ruel, a former space life sciences Mission Manager, received her BSc, Major Mathematics, from McGill University. She also holds an MBA and a DBA from Athabasca University. Her research focuses on historical and contemporary justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigeneity (JEDII) concerns in STEM and entrepreneurship/family-run businesses. Using various research frameworks, including intersectionality scholarship and Indigenous-based research methods, she shines a light on discriminatory day-to-day experiences, suggesting resistance and social justice initiatives to move away from such practices. One of her current research initiatives focuses on grief and grieving processes in the case of traumatic death and how organizations and communities can better support individuals going through this difficult life phase. Dr. Ruel’s teaching interests include human resource management and organizational behaviour. She is currently co-supervising three Ph.D. students and has been an external examiner.
