Shauna MacDonald

Associate Professor

Shauna M. MacDonald (Ph.D., Southern Illinois University) is an Associate Professor of Communication & Languages at Cape Breton University. She works at the intersections of performance, public memory, and gender, with a current focus on the culture of lighthouses. She is the author of multiple peer-reviewed articles, a book chapter, as well as several book and performance reviews. She has written and performed a full-length solo show and many shorter performances. She has been quoted in various publications, including National Geographic and on NPR (U.S.A.), been featured on several podcasts, and appears in an episode of The Secret Life of Lighthouses (October Films / Channel 5 in the U.K.). These days, she is busy writing an academic manuscript about the cultural meaning of lighthouses. As a University Research Chair, she is also studying stories of Cape Breton lighthouses.
