Melissa Bishop

Melissa is an Assistant Professor of Education in the School of Education and Health at Cape Breton University. As a former kindergarten and elementary teacher, Melissa has brought her passion for early learning into her research portfolio, where she explores early elementary (grades 1-3) and kindergarten teachers’ narratives of lived and planned curricula in Virtual Learning Environments (VLE). Melissa is passionate about play and land-based literacy to support literacy development in early learning environments. Her current research explores land-based language learning, universal design for learning (UDL) in virtual learning environments, and elementary teachers’ perspectives on embedding MakerSpace pedagogy and multi-modal literacy in English language arts programming.
