Godwin Dcunha

Associate Professor

Dr. Godwin B. DCunha (B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry University of Mumbai, India) is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at CBU; he teaches Introductory Chemistry, and Introductory and Intermediate Biochemistry. His areas of expertise are Fundamental and Applied Enzymology, and Protein Chemistry. The DCunha Research Group works on Phenylalanine Ammonia Lyase enzyme as the primary model protein. Fundamental work has been on systematic studies investigating the correlation of enzyme structure with function. Applied work involves exploring the use of enzymes in the synthesis of molecules of clinical and industrial significance. The group has recently embarked on studies involving antimicrobial potential of molecules/ chemicals synthesized using enzymes, and the synthesis of gold nanopraticles-enzyme conjugates for therapeutic applications.
