Cynthia Conley

Director, BSW Program, and Associate Professor

Cynthia L. Conley, Ph.D., MSW is an Associate Professor and Director of the BSW Program at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. She received her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Louisville and Master of Social Work from Indiana University in the United States. Cynthia brings 20 plus years of practice and work experience working with families of LGBTQ children. Their primary research interests include examining parental experiences and concerns about having 2SLGBTQIA+ children, cultural humility of social work practitioners, and 2SLGBTQ healthcare disparities. Some of their published work has appeared in Journal of Gay & Lesbian Social Services, Journal of Homosexuality, Journal of Social Work Education, and Journal of teaching in Social Work. In addition to teaching across bachelors, masters, and doctorate level social work curricula, they have served on the board of directors of several community organizations dedicated to meeting the needs of members of the LGBTQ community.
